How to clean your jackets by hand

As it is a delicate garment, mainly because of the fabric they are made of and its shape, you should clean them separately from the rest of your laundry.

Step 1: prepare your space

As we have mentioned before, you should clean them by hand and individually. It ‘s best if you use a barrel or a wide and clean recipient which you can fill with water. Once you have it, pour enough warm water to submerge your jacket.

Add the low pH soap, it must have a pH under 7, or a liquid detergent for delicate clothing, as it is the most gentle for your clothes. Using your hand, stir the water and the soap so it gets completely dissolved and it doesn’t stain the garment.

Step 2: Cleaning your jacket carefully

Once the product has been dissolved, introduce your jacket in the water and move it around to eliminate all the dirt. After that, let it soak for 5 minutes more so the detergent can make its effect.

Take out the jacket and if there are still any persistent stains, use a microfiber cloth soaked in the same water to rub gently over them without damaging the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse it

With your jacket clean and free of stains, it’s the moment to drain well (without squeezing the garment, it could be damaged) and rinse it with clean, cold water.

For this, it may be necessary that you pour and fill the basin or container with clean water several times. It is important to rinse your jacket well and leave it free of soap or detergent residue before putting it to dry.

Step 4: Eliminate water excess and leave it dry

Once you are sure to have your jacket completely clean, drain the excess of water again. Then, spread it on a clean, dry towel and with the help of another, press gently to remove as much water as possible before letting it dry.

Now, it’s time to hang your blazer on a wide hanger, so there are no marks on your shoulders. Leave it in the shade and outdoors to finish drying. It is important to be in the shade so that the sun does not spoil the colors of your garment.
